Dr. Rasmussen is a board-certified Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care physician based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Rasmussen received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Iowa before earning his medical degree at the same location, followed by his internship and residency at the University of Mexico. He then went on to pursue a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in 2004.
Dr. Rasmussen became interested in pulmonary medicine as a child when he was diagnosed with asthma, which led him to find pulmonary physiology fascinating. He enjoys the mental gymnastics that pulmonary medicine has to offer. Because it can be a complicated specialty, he finds it that much more rewarding when he is able to help patients with their pulmonary disease. Although Dr. Rasmussen is able to address all aspects of pulmonary medicine, what sets him apart from others is his ability to "see the forest through the trees" and focus on what therapy will make the patient better.
Dr. Rasmussen approaches every patient on an individual basis. When evaluating patients it is very important to listen to what is being said about what patients are experiencing. The patient history is paramount to establishing a differential diagnosis. His philosophy is to then to order the indicated tests and studies, if needed, and obtaining a working diagnosis, which will then lead him to integrate what has been obtained from the history, physical exam and supporting studies to deliver the best therapy available.
In his free time, Dr. Rasmussen is an avid mountain biker and backcountry snowboarder. He loves the outdoors and Utah fits the bill. He has a wonderful family, consisting of him wife, two strong willed teenagers and two awesome canines who accompany him everywhere.
